Camera Power Splitter
The Camera Power Splitter has been designed to simplify your camera trap setup by making it possible to power multiple devices around the camera (including the camera itself) from a single external battery. The battery can be located together with the camera or separately in its own container and connected through the Waterproof Cable System.
The cable features a DC 5.5mm x 2.1mm socket on one side, designed to receive power from an external battery. For example, a high-capacity lithium NP-F battery (commonly used for providing extra life to camera trap systems) can be plugged straight into this socket using a Camtraptions Compact NP-F Battery Adapter. This socket can also receive power from a battery source located outside the Camera Housing using the Female Waterproof Enclosure Entry Cable.
The other side of the cable splits into four branches:
- A female DC 5.5mm x 2.1mm socket for plugging in any camera dummy battery that features a male DC jack.
- A male DC 5.5mm x 2.1mm “tuning fork” jack for plugging in any camera dummy battery that features a female DC socket.
- A male DC 5.5mm x 2.5mm jack (supplied with a male to female converter), useful for powering one or more Camtraptions Wireless Triggers. One trigger can be powered from this port by connecting a Wireless Trigger Voltage Regulator cable, and two triggers can be powered by connecting a Wireless Trigger Voltage Regulator plus a Splitter Power Cable for Wireless Triggers.
- A male DC 5.5mm x 2.5mm jack for powering any extra devices, such as a Camtraptions Lens Heater and Heated Camera Housing Window.
Key Advantages
- Saves cost and reduces complexity by eliminating the need for multiple separate batteries of different types, which tend to deplete at different rates and require different chargers. Now you can power everything around the camera from a single battery, which can be recharged or replaced when necessary.
- Saves space inside your camera housing.
- Improves overall reliability of your camera trap.
- Makes it easier to use lithium NP-F batteries to power your equipment, which are better for use in cold environments.
Note: This cable does not regulate or alter the battery voltage. The power source should be chosen to match the requirements of the equipment being connected or appropriate voltage regulators should be connected on any branches where necessary.
